Overview
This 2017 Audi Q7 came to Weiss Auto Concept without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in its MMI system. Like many Audi models from this period, the car was fitted with the capable MMI Navigation Plus system — but the Smartphone Interface feature was simply switched off from the factory.
The good news: the hardware fully supports it. After our work, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now run natively in the original Audi menu, exactly as they would on a newer car.

The Problem: No CarPlay From the Factory
The owner wanted to use Apple CarPlay for maps, music, and messages directly on the car’s screen — but the Smartphone Interface option wasn’t there. This is a very common situation on Audi vehicles: the system is ready for CarPlay and Android Auto, but the feature was never enabled when the car left the factory in other words, nothing was missing physically. The feature just needed to be unlocked.
The Solution
Our process had two stages:
- Software update. We brought the MMI system up to the correct, stable firmware to ensure full compatibility and reliable performance.
- Smartphone Interface activation. We then enabled the factory Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality so it appears as a genuine, built-in option in the MMI menu.
Everything was done while keeping the car’s existing features fully intact — including the Bose audio system and the complete MMI Navigation Plus.
Android Auto — Enabled
After activation, Android Auto appeared directly in the official MMI menu, right alongside Media, Telephone, Navigation, and Map. The feature is now a permanent part of the system.
Audi Q7 Apple CarPlay – Enabled
We then connected an iPhone, and Apple CarPlay launched immediately. The full CarPlay home screen loaded without any issues, giving the driver access to:
- Phone
- Music
- Maps
- Messages
- Podcasts
- Audiobooks
The Q7 now enters full Apple CarPlay mode the moment a compatible iPhone is connected — a clean, factory-style experience on the original Audi display.
