Why CarPlay Didn’t Work on This 2019 Macan
On the 2019 Macan, Apple CarPlay is a software option. If it was not enabled at the factory, the PCM will not start CarPlay, even with an iPhone connected by USB. Porsche’s own Tequipment retrofit instructions for the Macan (95B) confirm this. The official route is a CarPlay license key (part 95B.044.900.07) coded with the PIWIS Tester 3, with no hardware change.
The owner’s question was simple: can the original CarPlay software be activated without installing any hardware? The answer was yes.
Why Activation Alone Doesn’t Give Full-Screen CarPlay
Standard CarPlay activation on PCM 5.0 shows CarPlay in a window, with a PCM info panel taking up the right side of the display. To make CarPlay fill the full width of the 10.9-inch screen, the PCM software itself must be flashed. The owner wanted full-screen, so we did both: activation and software flash.
What We Did, Step by Step
- Read the system data. We recorded the software, hardware and navigation database versions from the PCM Version Information screen.
- Entered the PCM Engineering menu. From there we loaded the software release MH2p_ER_P0416_K2874 through the SD card slot in the centre armrest.
- Flashed the PCM modules, including the MMX2P module.
- Coded the features with dealer-level diagnostic software (ODIS Engineering) to activate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Rebooted and tested. After activation, CarPlay first appeared in the standard split view. After the final reboot, it ran full-screen.
Protecting the Electronics During the Flash
We kept the engine running for the entire flash to hold a stable voltage. Porsche warns that a voltage drop during control-unit programming can cause irreparable damage. One short coding step had to be done with the ignition on and the engine off. Because it took under ten minutes, no external battery support was needed.

- Full-screen wired Apple CarPlay across the whole 10.9-inch PCM display
- Android Auto activated
- Factory Porsche software only, with no aftermarket interface or dongle
- Connection through the USB port in the centre armrest
Wireless CarPlay was not part of this job. On some PCM 5.0 units it can be enabled when the Wi-Fi hardware is present, and we confirm this per vehicle by VIN.
